We have always attacked the problem of small bedroom space but what should you do when you have an apartment that is small overall? The ground rules remain basically the same, but the important aspect of a design is the way of combining and merging the right elements into a logical interesting ensemble.
So we have considered analyzing a set of small living rooms in order to out down those main rules and observe the connections set between different types of elements, offering you some furniture arrangements ideas for your small living room.
1. Using small furniture for your small living room
We all try and find solutions to enlarge our space by giving up on colors and throwing away elements as much as possible. But why choose to give up on the small things and hold on to those big, heavy pieces of furniture which serve just as dust holders and space eaters? Adapt! Try and find furniture scaled to your living space, preferably in light shades and place them on a colorful background like a blue painted wall or a wallpaper. Decorate then the space with those small accents that you were so wiling to throw away and voila! A new fresh living room adapted to your needs and space.
2. Fresh light tones are always a plus
We know you like old mahogany wood furniture and dark tones on wall that scream elegance and taste but that combination is definitely a no in a small room. Try using white, beige and colorful accents to give a fresher look to the room and make it a little bit cozier as well. Warm tones combined with a classical wood fireplace can make that small corner into your favorite spot in the entire house.
3.Lighting is a key element
If you are stuck with a small room you can take benefit on natural lighting to create the sensation of a bigger space. Therefore, do not clutter the windows with big, dusty heavy drapes, instead use white transparent ones or none at all and paint the inner frame in white as well. If you have a beautiful view outside, the better!
Through windows or by using colorful accents, you can make that small living room seem larger. Don’t create a barrier between outside and in. Do not be afraid to use pastel tones and definitely decorate the interior with fresh cut flowers and other colorful accents that can make your interior vibrate.
