A superb design materialized by Canadian architecture practice Cargo follows. It has been forged in Quebec in a simple, sober, elegant material pallet. It includes a swing set and a wood store in a wooden forest wonderland, a vacation cottage of great beauty and utter simplicity in design language.

Entitled Villa Boréale the forest cabin is located in Charlevoix, a region in the eastern part of Quebec, one well known of wooded valleys, remarkable skiable mountains and extraordinary expansive views.

“At the heart of a boreal forest, the villa is set on a sloped and private site, matching up nicely with the ubiquitous vegetation of the surroundings,”  Cargo Architecture relates, a practice based in Quebec City.

A couple in their early 30s approached Cargo with no site initially with a consultation inquiry for the ideal location in the town of Petite-Rivière-St-François, near Le Massif, location about to nestle a superb cabin, one to be rented to tourists.

“Being involved early in the process, the architect was able to adequately inform his clients about the different aspects to be considered and future impacts of the site choice in the development of the project” the designers are further relating.

A well-oriented site has been chosen and therefore the much desired need for “great potential for intimacy” has been achieved.

“The site was quickly revealed as a powerful element of the project” the designers affirmed.

The interior designs is expressed with clear lines; an airy Scandinavian interior with a restrained material palette offers the home nobility, elegance. No less than 164 square meters of home have been materialized, 1,775 square feet, a dwelling born with white cedar, a black gabled roof, a shield of black-coated steel.

The black armor steps down on the facade locally creating an important, impressive contrast against the light cedar wood. Scandinavian Inspired Cabin Envisioned by Cargo Architecture Wins Quebec (8)

An intrinsic part of the composition are the storage nook and the swing seat in the front facade, elements that humanize the purity of the shape, accents that represent a cue for visitor, a “neat signage at first glance” the architecture practice relates.

The open-plan layout creates airiness, it provides the interior the capacity to breathe, thigh ceilings and floors of concrete and wood also emphasize the feeling of space. Light colors were used to further enhance this elegant expressive look, white lacquered cabinetry define the kitchen.

The interior-exterior communication is facilitated by a large glass door, the interior space can be extended outdoors towards the picturesque landscape. Extraordinary light floods the interiors, the black frame highlights extraordinary snapshots.

The cabin features now no less than 14 sleeping places and three large bathrooms in an extraordinary small place, task achieved by the design practice thanks to “intelligent and vigilant drafting work”.

“The interior spaces have been designed to simplify circulation while providing a sense of grandeur,” the practice further relates.

In the structure a mezzanine has been inserted to grow the shape`s flexibility, it contains a master bedroom, a kids playroom, a reading corner and a peaceful, quiet area meant as a baby nursery. The layout can support an additional bathroom as a future upgrade.
