Everyday a young family with limited resources purchases a small apartment in an old socialist building, small devastated apartments, most of them found in Eastern Europe, scars of a totalitarian regime. These small apartments are starting  from 35-40 square meters up to a max of 90 or so. As you would expect, they`re sheltering unreal small surfaces for a decent living, but in the present situation they`re available at decent prices for young people, and happily, they see through the problems, seeing a shimmer in small spaces, animating them differently giving these apartments a second chance.

Such a small apartment of 51 square meters has been the challenge for Rudolf Lesňákan architect that managed to transform a devastated apartment into a small luxurious comfortable home. The architect used all the tricks possible, he used stark white on everything possible to make the apartment seem airy breezy and far more brighter, he correlated the scale of the daily use objects with the size of the apartment, everything having its own space, he lifted up the kitchen counters, the desk and TV console from the floor, accentuating the continuity of the floor and emphasizing the feel of space.

In the living room Lesňák used a wall of golden pothos plant to bring life within the interior:“I used living plants, because it has positive impact on my health and psyche“, Lesňák says. “Moreover, it creates a natural opposite to the modern materials and all the technology“.

Leaving all these aside, the apartment is completed at its best by a system of LED lights that are changing according to the music played within the apartment or the inhabitants’ taste:  “Usually I turn it on while watching TV as a complementary light“. It works as an ambient light for the TV as well, moreover it accentuates the feel of space underneath the furniture, animating the whole scenario and generating a breathtaking interior design, shaped by light and shades.
