Cliff View Mansion H16 in Stuttgart by Werner Sobek H16 by Werner Sobek – a celebration of sustainability, landscape and comfort as well as an attribute to outstanding icons of modern architecture.
The design concept originally developed for R128 was further advanced for this private residence of an industrialist south of Stuttgart: a maximum transparency and a minimum of structure, full recyclable , extremely high user comfort trough intregrated building automation and very flexible ground plans and-last but not least –zero emissions thanks to intelligent climate engineering and highly efficient building materials. In addition, particular attention was paid to the integration of the building in the surrounding landscape.
The residential building ‘H16′ consists of two contrasting cubes responding to the particular situation on the inclined plot. The transparent, all-glass cube features an open living space with a flexible ground plan and highly insulating triple glazing (individual pane dimensions: 2,36 x 3,63 m) to facilitate a pleasant room climate and the greatest possible transparency.
The black cube is constructed from prefabricated architectural concrete sections and accommodates the private rooms, thus ensuring intimacy and possibilities for retreat. A dense hedge at street level shields the glass cube from view. The ensemble is augmented by a light-colored cube, which is visually connected to the residential building by a steel terrace and houses the garage and engineering.
In this superb site the best option was to develop a building horizontal, a building that would not harm the environment, therefore the first block takes the solid attitude of the rocks while the second one becomes transparent in order to leave the landscape untouched, sacred. Also as R128 the building has a sustainable attitude towards the environment beyond the aesthetics qualities, thing which we highly appreciate, we also encourage all of you to adopt this attitude as much as possible.
