Entitled the ‘Black House’, an enchanting timber home nestled in the forests of Normandy follows. Envisioned by studio Marchi Architects the small volume was built as an extension that pierces greenery with a near-black wooden timber slat armor, one that does not harm its environment nor does it show-itself in the scenery.
To further enhance the camouflage effect the timber home is embedded into the sloping terrain, allowing greenery to subdue it and emphasize the environment in all its beauty. In the interior an open space is sheltered, connected with the existing kitchen, dinning and living rooms.
The inspiration that led to the current solution has been described in a simple phrase by Marchi Architects.
“The dark timber cladding plays with light and shadows so that the extension disappears in the shade of the forest around.”
