One does need a chair. One does simply buy a chair. It was supposed to be that damn simple but today, imagination has surpassed the limits of materials ,shapes and colors, and like that, sophisticated high end chairs and furniture of all kinds is born everyday. Why we need complex furniture with complex geometry concept and so on? We actually do not need it. What you actually need is a comfortable chair, I repeat a comfortable chair, that is eventually well finished with more expensive materials like leather or aluminium and so. Yet here we are today presenting a chair that surpasses the normal boundaries by far, as several chairs have done it before on our website : Anemone Chair by Giancarlo Zema , Serenad Metal chair by Ali Alavi and few others chairs that can be found here.
This chairs is meant to be “the” chair, that unique chair attempt to materialize something rather unique, your personality. It`s mean to bond with a special type of consumer and translate his personal character, to be something that would describe silently his way of being and “explain” to the others how unique he actually is.
This chair seems to be defined in his complexity by one simple repetition of the same geometry, same shape, a very important aspect with a crucial impact on the production process, speeding it up massively. A clean yet perfectly symmetrical structure with bold line and aggressive look would sum up the design of Alterego. Despite the looks of it,the chair actually tries to be comfortable: though the backrest that adapts to the lumbar area and clears out the spinal column ;the chair is actually trying to create that great feeling of relief and hopefully be passed on as comfortable. The structure is made out of beech wood providing an amazing lightness to the piece , again , despite the looks of it.
Did Albert Puig managed to create an unique shape with the Alterego Chair ?! Definitely yes. Does it worth !? That`s for everyone to decide, from my point of view, it lacks functionality, and more important it seems to lack comfort even if it tries not to with that adaptive backrest. For me the line it`s drawn after comfort aspect. Looking forward on hearing your opinion in the comment section bellow.
