Japanese architecture practice NAP Architects has adopted a nature friendly position in the Tochigi area and created a Forest Tipi-Shaped House that manages to insert itself in the natural landscape without affecting it in no intrusive way. The architects decided to preserve all the existing trees and opted for a tipi shape which manages to avoid them all and still provide all the necessary interior spaces required by any normal home. The different sized bodies of the home articulate beautifully and seamlessly, revolving around an imaginary center and orientating the spaces towards the beuatiful forest.

“It is similar to primitive spaces seen in the houses of the Jomon People (Ancient Japanese), native Africans and Mongolians … the structure of the house initiates a lifestyle where there is close interaction.”

Wood was the selected material to be used in this angular composition, inserting itself discreetly in the natural as well as a coppery metallic roof to preserved the home’s structural integrity from the natural elements.

Light is invited in discreetly through small openings, making this home an introvert one.

At night, this architectural piece really transforms into a fairy tale home, with triangular windows exuding warm light and joy.
