The actor we all know from the “Friends” series owns a spectacularly modern styled house on the hills near L.A., featuring amazing views of the city.
While the famous series presents Chandler as a settled, family guy, the real life Matthew Perry is a bit different. He enjoys partying and living by himself. The house he bought suits his character perfectly, and would probably be any guy’s dream house. Why? Because it is the ultimate bachelor pad, especially due to its position, sitting atop of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, a perfect vantage point for the city life but away from all the noise and agitation, at the same time.
I guess that by seeing the pictures you believe that this residence was built quite recently. However, the house dates back to 1962 so it has some historic value. The building is characterized by the styling of its time; the steel structure is very clear and sincere, there are many windows to offer the maximum amount of illumination and quite a view and it is defined by very clear, straight lines that come together to create a very simple but beautiful composition. The colors are part of the same vintage design; most of the walls, appliances and furniture are painted in black or white, but here and there the designers placed some accents that would make it feel a bit more lively and playful, just like a bachelor pad should be like.
The Mid-Century Modern styled ensemble spreads out on a surface of 4,000 square feet, housing three bedrooms, four baths and other entertaining stuff like a pool, hot tub, wrap-around balcony, outdoor fire pit, and a home theater. They are however a bit striking and special. The bedroom for example has only glass walls, enabling Perry quite the panorama that would make any top floor skyscraper view look boring. His bedroom reveals an ever more amazing feature, the infinity pool; it’s quite normal to consider a regular house with a pool something luxurious and entertaining but when you can swim while glancing at the city of angels, well, that’s something else entirely. Each of the three bathrooms was designed in a different style, presenting different themes. The ‘powder room’ however is really something; it presents a powerful black and white contrast, unlike most of its kind (we previously featured a few articles presenting designs only of black and white contrast:17 Inspiring Wonderful Black and White Living Room Designs, Bold Design Ideas: Black Bathroom) and it is lighted up by two chandeliers which turn it into a really glamorous place to be in. And, just as you would expect, there’s also the home theater which, apart from the big TV and probably an exquisite sound experience it features nine velvet seats and a glass ceiling, above which the pool was placed; and, as if this wasn’t enough, the TV and the curtain lift up and reveal once again, a stunning view of Los Angeles. Now that’s how a real bachelor pad should be and feel like.
I was really impressed with the fact that even if Matthew Perry could have probably had any house he wanted, he chose this quite simple residence which, even if it’s stunning, it’s not out of the ordinary, we have seen stuff like it before. Its simplicity is however the key feature of the design, which makes it feel like a really cozy and tasteful place, just like a modern residence, a bachelor pad to be more precise, should be like.
