The breathtaking mansion ahead has been listed as “the most important architectural house you may have never seen” and is obviously responding properly to the phase. The home has flown under the radars attention for too long, way too long, in the late 80s, an artist entitled Beverly Doolittle and her husband Jay were the happy owners of 10 beautiful acres in Joshua Tree. In love with the site and the view they wanted to materialize a home design that would respond the site properly, a design camouflaged in the environment and born from the nature of the environment and matter.
As a result they`ve tracked down a super organic architect at that time, entitled Kendrick Bangs Kellogg, an artist that felt their appreciation for the site and emphasized it. Beverly relates today about Kendrick:
“He was jumping all over the rocks like a mountain goat. He had been looking for rocks to build on.”
The couple understood that the search of incredible has been placed in good hands, reason for which they gave him their full trust and free rein, in 1988 the work began, featuring concrete steel glass and copper, this object becoming one of the most wonderful examples of organic architecture placed in natural rocky environment today. From an aerial perspective the home looks like a sculptural breathtaking rib-cage.
Despite the magnitude and complexity of the home, it was done in 1993, moment in which interior designer John Vugrin decided that Kendrick`s art piece needed a few tweaks in order to become the spine-tingling home that is today. The result is astonishing, every little piece in the interior seems one of a kind, everything is sculptural and breathtaking, all spaces are properly illuminated despite the heavy bold aspect of exterior. It`s an oasis of inspiration.
The Doolittles enjoyed the gem till today when they`ve decided that it`s time downsize, giving a happy individual to acquire this super villain home for no more the 3 million dollars.
