A small urban reading space insertion has managed to reinvigorate the public space of Toronto. It`s entitled the Story Pod and is basically one small structure that serves the city`s thirst for knowledge. Infused in multiple sites of immense beauty the installation invites individuals to read in the open fresh air and create a dialogue between them, permanently inviting to both leave literature into the establishment and take other pieces away.

The wooden structure is secured on the exterior with transparent plastic beautifully fronted by slats shaping a solid wall at the first glance from a distance, gradually opening up as you get closer to them, revealing their knowledge encapsulated in books, their shelves and light.

Every night, the pods are automatically locked and lit up to serve as lanterns for the public space; the LED lights used are thoughtfully powered by solar panels positioned on the roof. These magnificent self sustainable pods have been envisioned by Atelier Kastelic Buffey and they make the public space of Toronto a better, more interactive place, everyday.

What do you think? In theory, every city could benefit from such structures, what about yours? Leave your valuable feedback in the comment section below.
