Creators of The Fish House , Guz Architects have now developed another green beauty: The Sun House, a modern mansion located in Singapore on a corner site. It is considered to be a compact home by local standards so the direction the architects took was the one of open spaces and connectivity to natural landscape, quite a modern approach.

Designed in an “L” shape, the residence opens up to the inner patio where green has taken over. A long, turquoise swimming pool dominates the sight, accompanied by a small pond and a beautiful extravagant garden. The house itself seems to be a continuation of the garden with an open plan living room and stairs that connect the higher level located directly on the street to amplify the sensation of natural.
Constructed for an art collector the Sun House is decorated with fine works of art and sculptures. The openness of the space generated by the floor-to-ceiling windows is enhanced by the usage of white finishing on the walls and the belonging to nature feeling is created by worm woody accents.

Description from the architects:

“The sun house is a relatively compact house for Singapore on a roadside corner plot in an established bungalow area. We endeavoured to make the most of the site by pushing the main ‘L’ shape of the building to the rear. This then created an open courtyard which was private but with still a feeling of openness on the relatively densely constucted site, thus still allowing for good views and airflow. We used the ponds and pool as cooling elements for the building as well as visual focal points. Volumes and space were maximised as much as possible by sharing the open staircase and double height living space with the courtyard area. At the end of the day the house was also designed around the owner, who had a lovely collection of artwork and sculptures and this inspired the creation of a large solid wall with niches which housed his artworks as well as giving the building an anchor on which to expand other spaces”.

Homesthetics Conclusion:
The Sun House has turned out to be an exquisite work of art itself, created around a surreal courtyard that trembles with green, life and beauty of nature.
