An usual winter chalet is quite whimsical and it`s definitely the place in which you would like to be for a hot chocolate during winter. It`s mostly made out of wood, this aspect describing both the warmth and the natural smell of wood itself. On a wooden floor you can definitely can get comfortable with a blanket in front of the chimney without a doubt.

We have some amazing chalets featured on our website before you go on, this will help you define a “regular” chalet:Les Gentianes 1850 – Preserving The Roots in Courchevel, France | Old Farm Transformed Into an Unique Vintage Home with Scandinavian Accents | Moody Cabin Blending in the Surroundings in Colorado |Farmhouse Transformed in an Amazing Chalet With Vintage Accents by Lionel Jadot | Rustic Chalet of Natural Wood In Megeve – French Alps by Bo Design.

Recently we found the exception of the rule, the first one that we have encountered, it`s a rather unconventional winter retreat situated nearby Aspen Colorado. The project is realized by Kaegebein Fine Homebuilding and it steps aside from the regular chalets by using different shapes, materials, textures and finishings. In this chalet we find a highly contemporary home design reassembled into the mountains, everything from huge windows to exposed concrete. This selection of materials has an advantage as well, the color scheme is rather neutral and makes the home disappear into the surroundings especially during winter time; we do not see this as an advantage for the home but who are we to talk?

On the first floor of the chalet we can find the common area on an open plan, a huge living room captures amazing snapshots of the serene landscape and creates warmth with an amazing fireplace forged between the windows making the ideal space in this home to sip your hot chocolate. Upstairs, trough a stairway with wooden steps, we can find the private areas meant for the inhabitants.

Homesthetics Conclusion

Capitol Creek House is a definitely out of the ordinary and no matter how we look at it still does not seem to have a reason for being built like that in that site. Yes, maybe the owners were dreaming of such a retreat but the architect and constructor are still obligated to do their best and at least try to explain the dysfunctional aspects of such a home in such a place. No matter how amazing that fireplace, it will never even make a glimpse of warmth or heat with those huge windows nearby, not talking the lost heat and the tremendous effort and resources that you need to make that place livable during the winter. It`s just not right, nor worth the effort, no matter how much money you have. The materials are cold, literally, who would touch that exposed concrete during the winter and say, “Ow, that is amazing concrete”. The list can go on but this is just our opinion, we are inviting you to comment as well, we are intrigued and we would love to hear your opinion.
