Nic Owen Architects have envisioned the extension of a Victorian House in Melbourne, Australia. The project completed in 2016 measures 164 square meters and it shelters a new family room and kitchen. The fresh pod extension now responds only to nature`s restraints while in design expression it respects the past in its modern design, subdued.
In the backyard the roof angles have been carefully chosen to allow a comfortable inhabitancy and the maximum of light at the same time, on the west it can fold down protecting the interior from harsh evening glare. The roof extends to provide shade from direct sunlight all-around whilst maintaining the right angle for low winter sunlight.
The original structure remains intact thus allowing the architects focus on an efficient unobtrusive design, respectful to the surrounding environment.
How do you see the modern pod ? We would love to hear from you in the comment section below !
