As stated above, the mansion presented today is entitled Wilkinson Residence and it`s located around the American West, to be more specific, in Oregon. The assemble can be easily considered a retreat in nature, and it seems to have a natural relationship with the striking environment; located on a steep slope, the residence tends to integrate with a natural yet dynamic shape in the organic natural context.
As in the most buildings the living space stands out from the rest by being higher up on the site, having now a greater role in the wildlife scenario, the living ensemble contains the kitchen, dining room and gathering area along with some built in features and an impressing fireplace. All those are contained within a volume realized by curving natural wood beams. The volume is further on accessorized with copper plated frames and huge windows that are making use of the background by bringing the surroundings closer to the interior and ensuring a better relationship between them. The floor located bellow can be summed up easily: it homes three bedrooms and a bathroom featuring cedar shingles that are embracing all the surfaces.
The night area has the required characteristics: privacy, intimacy, less light, yet very well connected to the other spaces by obeying to the same rules as the floor above, a very well balanced structure in perfect equilibrium and harmony with the environment.
Being located in a green area, the home is fitted with some sustainable features in order to blend in and not harm the surroundings, it has plenty of ventilation and the internal comfort which is maintained using radiant heating, the windows with low-E are meant to reflect the natural light.
As we see it, this home can be considered a tribute to the landscape or so it appears, the shapes forged within it seem to inspire movement and growth, to be a mirror of the surroundings, at least considering its characteristics. The owner wanted an insertion that would not destroy the rhythm created by the forest. We would be hypocrites to say it blends in perfectly and that his wish was realized perfectly but it isn`t far anyway from its purpose and it`s closer then many others. It should be highly appreciated for its sustainable features and we encourage our audience to follow this direction, maybe applied in less sacred and pure sites though.
