DIY Melted Crayon Art Project In Just Six Simple Steps
After purchasing the crayons you will need a plain white or light colored canvas depending on how much contrast you want to obtain, the strongest graphic result will be obtained with a plain white canvas though. You can practice on a wood piece if you feel the need to.
Prepare the art workplace and lay a few newspaper underneath the blank canvas. If you are going to use a wide canvas consider using multiple 24 packs or even better, a 64 pack that contains more colors. Next lay them out at the top of the board aligned side by side. Arrange them in the color pattern that you desire. The default pack position gives extraordinary results on plain white canvases thanks to the color gradient-like effect.
By using a hot glue gun you can fix the crayons into place. Glue them with their point facing down towards the expansive white canvas. Be carefully with the hot glue gun as it can get hot and emit adhesive that should never reach unwanted surfaces. Do not leave it unattended when plugged in.
The graphic part comes next. Remove your hot glue gun and prepare the blow dryer. With the blow dryer turned on and set to the highest grade you will now cautiously move it horizontally to each set of colors. You will notice that the crayons will start to glow a little and soon after the wax will start dripping down in a highly graphic river of colors, clearing your eyes with a magnificent result.
The tricky part here is to ensure that the crayons will melt evenly. Aim the heat at the wrapper, this will hopefully liquefy it from the inner core out and the melted crayons will still resemble their initial stance.
The DIY project and the melting crayon part is quite fast and yet highly rewardful unlike other art pieces, especially in the DIY segment. Pay attention to the process and do not overdo it. The contrast between the white canvas and colorful wax is an important part in the composition, if you cover the white surface entirely or subdue it to color the effect will not be the same. An uncertain equilibrium and a sculptural dripping should be present.
You are done. A big congratulations for your progress, hang in your masterpiece or wrap it up as a gift and get ready to receive compliments and inspire others with your work, this is a superb piece of art that will surely amaze.
We invite you to get creative and use the same technique in multiple ensembles and compositions, there are thousands of methods of melting crayons and hundreds of available colors, millions of color combinations that can be arranged on a blank canvas, what stops you?
