The curtains play a huge role in our overall sleep quality. This is especially true during the mornings, when the sun is rising. If your sleeping position causes you to face the sunrise directly, then it can be quite disturbing since the sun’s rays shine directly on your face.What’s more if your schedule allows you to sleep through the morning, you want to avoid the distraction of light. The best way to do this is to have thick curtains that block out the light rays.And while you might think it implies getting black curtains, however you may consider getting thick curtains effective at blocking out the light in vibrant colors such as green, and blue.

  • Get the Right Pillows

Pillows play a huge role in the quality of your sleep. The wrong pillows will not provide enough support to your neck and head and can cause it to strain. As a result, you are likely to wake up with an aching neck.

Pillows should be comfortable and provide ample support for the upper body. People who snore at night can find that the snoring reduces with ample upper body support when sleeping.

  • Choose a Quality Mattress

There is no denying the importance of a quality mattress when it comes to the quality of your sleep. The right mattress should provide support to the spine. Any wrong position when sleeping will cause complications and discomfort later on.

  • Choose the Right Sheets

As for the material, cotton is not only comfortable to the skin but is also warm. Polyester is another option. However, the downside of polyester is that it can cause skin breakout in people with sensitive skins.

  • Bring in a Plant

There are plenty of benefits of having a real house plant in your bedroom. First off it reconnects you with nature, by bringing an element of the outdoors in your home.

Secondly it adds great aesthetic value to your room. A nice-looking bedroom means that you will spend more time in it.

Thirdly plants cause a calming effect which is great after having a long and tiring day. That said, make sure that the plant is healthy by constantly watering it. If you think you’ll forget to water it, try choosing a plant that doesn’t require a lot of water such as a cactus.

 

  • Always Make Your Bed

Let’s face it, it is far easier to get into a made bed than it is to get into a bed that’s not. Furthermore, after spending a long day at work and its finally time to hit the bed, but your bed isn’t made. It makes you realize it’s super exhausting to make the bed before your sleeping time.  

You can prevent this by always making sure that you make your bed when you rise in the morning. What’s more, a made bed gives the impression of tidiness which also helps to make your mind less clogged up. You can sleep better when you go to bed with a clear mind.

 

  • Get a Comfortable Couch for the Bedroom

If you spend a considerable amount of your time in the bedroom, you’ll need a space to sit and do stuff like reading or perhaps catch up with the latest on social media.

Sleeping outside of your normal sleeping hours can affect your ability to sleep at night. So instead of relaxing on the bed which could tempt you to sleep, you can relax on the couch as you wait for the right time to sleep.

Get Yourself a Robe and Sippers

You might be wondering what’s the significance of a robe and slippers in a cozy bedroom? Well, it is important to prepare your body for sleep and one way to do this is to remove any constricting clothes that you wore during the day and switch to more comfortable, freeing and warm clothes.

The robe allows your body to get rid of the tension of the day. On the other hand, the slippers will help keep your feet off the cold floors.

 

Dim or Turn Off the Lights

Bright lights can cause the body to take too much time falling asleep. What’s more, bright lights can also cause migraines which makes it even harder to fall asleep. It is best therefore to get into the habit of dimming or turning off the lights, when you go to sleep.

This allows the body to get used to the dimming of lights and make the sleeping process significantly easier.

By creating a dark atmosphere, the body will naturally want to sleep, whenever you get into the bedroom during your sleeping hours.

 

Room Temperature

The temperature of the bedroom has a direct effect on the quality of your sleep. If the room is too cold for instance, you will be freezing, and your body will focus more on getting your core temperature up than relaxing and letting you sleep.

On the other hand, if the temperature is too warm. You’ll find it hard to relax and remain covered which also affects your sleeping.

You can deal with a cold room by bringing in a portable heater or increase the temperature on the thermostat.

On the other hand, you can use a fan to create a breeze in an excessively warm room.

 

  • Sounds

Another thing that can help improve the quality of your sleep is the soothing sounds. Obviously loud sounds will prevent you from going to bed. On the other hand, soft sounds will help your body relax and fall asleep much easier.

For instance, cricket sounds and wind chimes are great at helping your mind and body to relax and sleep. If you live close to a natural habitat, the cricket sounds will likely come naturally. If not, however you can always use a CD player to play you the sleep-inducing music.

 

Get Rid of Things that Remind You of Work

Many of us might have a desk in the bedroom where we usually work on projects late into the night. However, it’s important to keep in mind that a bedroom is a place to help you relax and unwind.

Having things in the bedroom that remind you of work will only make it harder for you to relax. Imagine thinking of the unpaid bills and all the deadliness that need to be met by the end of the week. Not the right tool to help fall asleep! Therefore, try to keep all the work-related equipment away from your bed.
